The Portland Bike Stand. The very first ultra-premium, professional-grade bike trainer stand accepting all wheel, tire and axle sizes, and 500Lbs+
The Portland Bike Stand
Hey there!
My name is Kevin Schmidt, a Physical Therapist, Bike Fitter and founder of one the very first bike-centric PT offices in the US, called Pedal PT.
Our office is unique in that we offer full-service PT + Bike Fitting, and are located on one of the busiest bike boulevards in the US, seeing an average of 4-6 thousand bike trips per day!
Every day, our office sees all levels of riders, from bike commuters and racers, to family cargo bikes, tandems, Fat Bikes, E-bikes, adventure bikes and backpacking rigs, and every permutation of a bike you can imagine!
Our biggest challenge initially was the ability to get all these unique and bigger bikes installed on a stationary trainer, and so we tried them all!
Some trainers were built very durable (like a Computrainer) but couldn't take wider-framed bikes, MTB, or 29" wheels. Some trainers took bigger wheels and bikes (like the Kurt Kinnetic), but the axles would bend, and the weight limit tops out at 250Lbs, and because of that, we'd go through about 2-3 of these a year!
The more I searched, I quickly discovered that ALL wheel-on-bike trainers available were made exclusively for road-bike riders and lack the capacity to accept larger axles and tires, and wheels other than 700c.
I needed a wheel-on bike trainer that could just simply do it all: All wheels. All axles, big or small. All tire sizes. A massive weight tolerance to hold heavier e-bikes, and bigger riders.
As luck would have it, I connected w an experienced local machinist and bike builder Clay Dennis in 2016-17, and togrher we crafted a prototype. After a couple of modifications, the design that would become “The Portland bike " was finally created!
Seven years since that initial prototype, and testing on over 5000 BikeFit visits, we now recently have full manufacturing thanks to Onyx Racing Components at their state-of-the-art facility in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Key Features
* Rear Axle Width Range. The Portland sturdily holds narrower axles as small as 114mm (Sturmey, BMX/Singlespeed/Fixie), and opens wide enough for FatBike, E-Bike and beyond --- up to 250mm+
* Removable front legs for easier transport and traveling with the unit
*Proprietary Locking Axles and Machined Brass Fittings
Brass not only looks great, and the increased malleability and low-friction properties are perfect for contact pints and axle ends. This inherent softness prevents damage or ‘sticking' between bolts and thru axle ends under a compressed load.
* Stability & Load Capacity 500Lbs+ USA-made and over-built on purpose for increased weight capacity of 500LBs+ with a massive stable footprint: this allows The Portland to hold an E-bike or CargoBike/Bakfeit, and the wide footprint base makes it nearly impossible to tip over with full efforts or with larger/taller riders.
* Maximum Wheel + Tire Size Clearance
·Takes up to 29” +3.5” tires, and everything smaller diameter 650lbs, 700, 26”, you name it. Even FatBike!
* Adjustable Rear Feet Allows the ability to level the unit on unstable or non-level surfaces.
* Lifetime Guarantee and 100% Replaceable Parts
The frame of the unit will last you a Lifetime, and if ever a piece/part on the unit becomes worn out or needs to be replaced, we can easily provide you with replacements or customizations
